Spee West Completes One of The Largest High Schools in the State

Built with the look of a university campus, Mount Si accommodates a student body of 1,850 individuals. Mount Si is one of the largest high school built in Washington. For this project, Spee West faced a specific challenge with a successful solution:

Challenge

This project has a 180,000 square foot parking garage at the ground level. There were approximately 320 structural steel tube columns in the garage that needed to be encapsulated in concrete for protection and fireproofing purposes. Spee West identified logistical concerns with constantly pumping small amounts of concrete to remote locations within a parking garage with low head clearance.

Solution

Spee West proposed a 2-piece decorative precast concrete solution that could be installed by a small crew continuously without constant concrete deliveries. The precast pieces could be handled and placed with a standard warehouse forklift, which would fit under the low clearance lid of the garage.

This innovative approach allowed for an efficient completion to this large-scale project.
