our Project

River Ridge (New Valley) Elementary School

New Valley is a ground up new construction project situated on a sloping site adjacent to a well-loved community dog park in SeaTac, WA. The project architect, Hutteball + Oremus, oriented the building to provide beautiful views of Mount Rainer on clear days. Their creative design was accomplished while still incorporating conventional materials for school projects in the region; standard concrete foundation, structural steel frame with select heavy timber elements, cold formed metal stud framing exterior walls and interior partitions. With 36 classrooms and Pre-K education facilities this expansion is a welcome addition to the growing neighborhood. The campus previously served as a Nike Missile battery charged with protecting the Boeing production plant in Kent during the cold war.

Unique Project Features

Careful coordination minimized impact to adjacent residential neighborhoods and maintained access to those properties at all times including a sand play field and dog park – notably during right of way utility and improvement work. The procurement process for River Ridge was successfully executed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent supply chain constraints (2020 and 2021). BIM modeling was used to pre-plan and pre-fabricate work to support an aggressive construction schedule. Spee West worked alongside the larger project Team to navigate permitting challenges delaying the start of construction.
