our Project
Puesta del sol ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The replacement Puesta del Sol Elementary School project is a Spanish immersion magnet school for the Bellevue School District. Built on the site of a previous swing school, the project is bordered by wetlands on two sides and close residential neighbors the remaining sides. As the Owner’s goal was to build the first public Net-Zero PK-12 school in the state, the project required the highest level of interdisciplinary coordination and QA/QC to be a success. With the site accessible by residential side streets only, the scope of the project included widening and adding frontage improvements to both sides of the residential access road while keeping the residents able to access their driveways.
Unique Project Features
As a Net-Zero project there is a 382-kW solar array, 85 geothermal well field, battery energy storage system and a custom energy control center/microgrid system. The project also required the installation of a 100’x12’x7’ storm detention vault in the center of an adjacent major arterial road, 5G street lighting, rapid flashing crosswalk signage and remote school zone flashing beacons. This portion of the contract was significant and required extensive traffic control planning, adjacent resident communication, and multiple shift work to complete the scope during winter months.
